Kohima: In a major operation, Assam Rifles successfully seized 120 tons of illegal areca nuts valued at Rs 14.32 crore on National Highway 29 in Kohima, Nagaland.
The operation was conducted on Monday, following intelligence inputs regarding the illegal smuggling of Areca Nuts from Manipur to Nagaland.
Troops from Assam Rifles established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in response to the received information. During a surprise check of vehicles on National Highway 29 near Jakhama, four pickups and five trucks were discovered carrying Areca Nuts without the necessary permits and documents.

Subsequently, the individuals involved, along with the seized Areca Nuts and vehicles, were handed over to officials from the Customs Department.
The interception and seizure underscore the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb illegal activities and maintain law and order in the region.
