Aizawl: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday alleged that the BJP and RSS’s primary objective was to establish a Hindu Rashtra and said the proposed FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 was part of efforts to restrict Christian organisations receiving foreign assistance.
The allegation was made at an MPCC Executive Meeting held at Congress Bhavan under the chairmanship of MPCC senior vice-president Lalnunmawia Chuaungo.
The meeting passed a resolution supporting the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM)’s protest against the FCRA Amendment Bill scheduled for August 11 and called on Congress members and supporters to participate in it.
The MPCC alleged that the BJP and RSS strongly opposed foreign assistance received by Christian organisations and had falsely accused Christians of using such funds to convert people to Christianity.
The Congress committee said it would continue to oppose attempts to amend the FCRA, alleging that the proposed changes were aimed at creating greater restrictions on Christians.
The MPCC also resolved that Mizoram MPs should oppose the Bill when it is introduced in Parliament and vote against it.
Rejecting the argument that the proposed legislation would not have retrospective effect, the MPCC said the central issue was the alleged attempt to create difficulties for Christian organisations receiving foreign assistance.
The party said FCRA is also used by various organisations and NGOs that provide assistance to people and warned that changes to the law could prevent many beneficiaries from receiving such assistance.
The MPCC further called on the Mizoram government to convene a special session of the state Legislative Assembly and pass a resolution opposing the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026, saying this would demonstrate that the people of Mizoram do not support the proposed legislation.
