Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Garima Gupta on Thursday outlined the process and key features of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls 2026, stressing the need to maintain a clean and accurate voters’ list in the state.
Addressing the media, Gupta said the primary objective of SIR 2026 is to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the Electoral Roll while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons. She described an accurate Electoral Roll as the foundation of democracy and one of the most important responsibilities of the election machinery.
The CEO informed that preparations for SIR 2026 are currently underway across all districts of Mizoram. Enumeration forms have already been downloaded in every district, making Mizoram the first among the 16 states undertaking the Phase-III SIR exercise to complete the process. Printing of the forms has also begun and is expected to be completed before the end of the month.
According to Gupta, all existing voters, including those whose names already appear in the current Electoral Roll, will be required to submit fresh enumeration forms as part of the revision process.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits from May 30 to June 28, 2026, to distribute the forms to voters in their respective areas.
After filling up the forms, voters may either submit them directly to the BLOs or upload them online. Gupta said BLOs will upload the collected forms through the BLO App, while hard copies of all submitted forms will be preserved by the CEO’s office for official records.
The CEO also urged voters to verify whether their names appeared in the last Intensive Revision Electoral Roll conducted in Mizoram in 2005. Newly eligible voters have similarly been advised to check whether the names of their parents or ancestors were included in the 2005 Roll.
She stated that individuals whose names, or whose parents’ or ancestors’ names, do not appear in the 2005 Electoral Roll will be required to apply for inclusion through Form-6.
Gupta said the revision exercise is intended to ensure that long-time voters, genuine residents of Mizoram, and eligible Indian citizens are properly included in the Electoral Roll.
Special attention is also being given to first-time voters, with all persons turning 18 years of age on or before July 1, 2026, becoming eligible for enrolment.
The draft Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published on July 5, 2026. Following its publication, a two-month window will be provided for filing claims and objections.
During this period, eligible persons whose names are missing from the draft roll may apply for inclusion, while objections may also be raised against names of ineligible persons.
The draft Electoral Roll will be made available for public inspection, including online through the CEO’s official website.
