Aizawl: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced refrigerated parcel van services to improve the transportation of perishable agricultural produce from Mizoram, a move expected to help farmers and traders access wider markets for horticultural products.
According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the expansion of both passenger and freight train services in the state has brought major improvements in connectivity as well as the movement of goods. He said the development has played a key role in strengthening the state’s economy while also contributing to the growth of tourism.

Freight movement on the newly operational route has also begun to expand. On March 3, 2026, the first-ever Food Corporation of India (FCI) food grain cargo train reached Sairang Railway Station. The train consisted of 42 wagons transporting around 25,900 quintals of rice from Punjab, marking an important milestone in strengthening the supply chain of essential commodities through rail transport.
Tourism traffic has also seen an uptick since the start of rail services. On February 12, 2026, the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train arrived at Sairang Railway Station for the first time as part of the ‘North East Discovery’ circuit.
