Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma chaired a review meeting with NHIDCL officials working in the state on Tuesday at the CM conference hall. The meeting was attended by PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, along with officials from PWD, P&E Department, and NHIDCL.
The Chief Minister highlighted that many National Highways are in poor condition, with potholes and surface scratches appearing across numerous stretches. He stressed the importance of timely and proper repairs during the Contractor Liability Period. He also emphasised that when new bypass roads are constructed, the existing roads passing through towns must be properly handed over to the State PWD. The Aizawl–Vairengte road, he underlined, being the lifeline of Mizoram, should be given the highest priority.
He proposed to the Central Ministry the use of rigid pavement for highway construction in Mizoram, citing the state’s heavy rainfall and long monsoon season, which accelerate road deterioration. NHIDCL officials informed him that the Minister of MoRTH has already directed them to examine the proposal, and the Chief Minister urged NHIDCL to expedite action on this matter.
The CM also raised concerns about the Thingfala Mamte ‘T’ Baptist Church, which collapsed due to road cutting by NHIDCL. Officials reported that the Deputy Commissioner’s Office has conducted assessments and submitted them to the Project Management Unit, with further action to be forwarded to NHIDCL Headquarters.
In response, Mizoram Regional Executive Director Adelbert Susngi assured that all issues raised by the Chief Minister will be addressed promptly. NHIDCL also briefed the CM on various challenges faced at work sites.
