Aizawl: Mizoram’s lone medical college, the Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H), Falkawn, has brought laurels to the state after its Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) won the Best Practices Award and Award of Excellence at the VRDL Conclave 2025 organized by the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in New Delhi.

In the nationwide evaluation conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), VRDL at ZMC&H was ranked in the Silver Category, securing the 5th position among all VRDLs across India. The award was presented by Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel.

Established in 2021, the VRDL at ZMC&H is managed by the Department of Microbiology and is at the forefront of Mizoram’s fight against viral diseases. It has been instrumental in detecting and managing COVID-19, influenza, and other emerging viral infections, ensuring timely response to health threats in the state and the Northeast region.
