Aizawl: Three major political parties in Mizoram, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Mizo National Front (MNF), have jointly welcomed the inauguration of the much-awaited Sairang-Bairabi Railway Line by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025.
The joint statement, signed by ZPM President Lalliansawta, BJP President Dr. K Beichhua, and MNF President Zoramthanga, hailed the railway project as a “historic moment” for the state.
“This marks a new chapter in the developmental journey of Mizoram, connecting our State more closely with the rest of the nation and laying a strong foundation for enhanced economic, social, and cultural progress,” the statement read.
The parties underlined that the completion of the railway line would bring multiple benefits to the people of Mizoram. Safer, quicker, and more affordable travel, along with expanded opportunities for trade, business, tourism, and employment, are expected to be some of the major outcomes.
Expressing gratitude to the Government of India, the state government, and all stakeholders who contributed to the project, the leaders stressed that the achievement ultimately belonged to the people of Mizoram.
“Above all, this achievement belongs to the people of Mizoram, whose patience, support, and cooperation have brought us to this day,” the statement noted, adding that the development would serve as “a symbol of unity, progress, and hope for our State’s future.”
