Aizawl: A coordination meeting was held yesterday at the Aizawl SP Office, bringing together Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of police stations, and senior district police officials to review the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873.
According to police data, Aizawl district has conducted 48 ILP checking operations so far in 2025. As many as 281 individuals without valid ILPs or found violating permit conditions were apprehended and subsequently produced in court.
Police officers acknowledged that while enforcement has improved, more proactive measures are necessary. As part of future steps, it was agreed that ILP checking will be intensified and systematically carried out across different localities in Aizawl city. Officials proposed a zone-wise ILP enforcement strategy, encouraging collaboration with local councils and community-based organisations (CBOs).
In addition to regular ILP enforcement, authorities are also monitoring the inflow of outsiders into the district. Officials noted a significant rise in ILP applications due to the ongoing Combined Recruitment Rally for CAPF, SSF, and Assam Rifles. Around 7,422 candidates have reportedly arrived in Aizawl between August 20 and September 11, leading to concerns over overstays and permit violations.
Police warned that those entering the state for recruitment purposes must leave once the process concludes. They expressed concern that without proper checks, some candidates may choose to stay on illegally. The public was urged to report such instances and to encourage all incoming individuals to apply for ILP through official channels.
