Aizawl: The Art & Culture Department, Government of Mizoram, on Tuesday hosted the Tiranga Mahotsav, Tiranga Mela and Tiranga Concert at Vanapa Hall, aimed at fostering a stronger sense of patriotism and unity among India’s diverse communities under the national flag.
The event was inaugurated by C. Lalsawivunga, Hon’ble Minister, Art & Culture Department, and presided over by Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Link Secretary, Art & Culture Department.
In his address, the Minister highlighted that the Mahotsav was part of the ongoing celebrations of India’s 75th year of Independence, symbolising the enduring unity of the nation’s many ethnic and linguistic groups under the tricolour. He urged citizens to uphold the values represented by the national flag and to actively contribute towards building stronger bonds between communities.
The Tiranga Mahotsav, organised under the Ministry of Culture’s Har Ghar Tiranga programme, was first introduced in 2022 as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence. It promotes the public display of the national flag and encourages cultural exchange to strengthen national integration.
In Mizoram, the celebrations included Tiranga Yatra, a heritage and cultural product exhibition under the Tiranga Mela, and the Tiranga Concert showcasing traditional songs and dances. The Vanapa Hall event featured stalls exhibiting Mizo handicrafts, performances by various artists and bands, as well as students from the Institute of Music & Fine Arts (69th Batch), Art & Culture Department.
The Tiranga Mela will continue until August 14, 2025, with similar events taking place across the state.
