Aizawl: Sharad Agarwal, IPS officially took charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Mizoram on July 30, 2025. He was welcomed with a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Khatla, Aizawl, followed by an introductory meeting attended by senior police officers of the rank of AIG and above, along with unit heads within Aizawl.
A 1997 batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, Agarwal brings with him over two decades of policing experience across India, spanning law and order management, high-profile investigations, and administrative reforms.
He began his policing career as Superintendent of Police, South Puducherry in 1999, where he managed major labour agitations and handled large-scale religious gatherings like the Shani Peyarchi Festival in Karaikal. In Delhi, as Additional DCP and later as DCP, he supervised security arrangements for events like the MCD elections and India International Trade Fair. He also played a key role in handling protests, criminal externment, and countering public unrest.
Notably, during his tenure in Goa (2004–07), Agarwal oversaw the first International Film Festival of India held in the state and cracked down on foreigners involved in drug peddling. In Delhi’s West and Southwest Districts (2008–11), he was pivotal in solving the radioactive material case in Mayapuri, garnering national and international attention.
As DIG in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (2011–14), he led major personnel and infrastructure reforms. He later served in Delhi Traffic Police and as Joint Commissioner of Police, where he oversaw logistical and traffic management for the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit in 2015.
Agarwal’s stint at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) saw him lead probes into high-profile corruption and murder cases, including heading the SIT for alleged fake encounters in Manipur. As Joint Director (Training), he expanded capacity-building programmes and modernized training access for CBI officials.
Most recently, as Special Commissioner of Police, Economic Offences Wing, Delhi, he dealt with large-scale economic frauds and ponzi schemes, ensuring rapid resolution and offering direct engagement with victims.
