Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, currently in the national capital, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a high-level discussion covering a range of critical state issues and proposals.
The meeting, described as constructive and forward-looking, centered on funding and approvals for major initiatives such as the Handholding Scheme, the proposed Thenzawl Peace City, and several large-scale infrastructure projects vital to Mizoram’s development.
During the talks, the Chief Minister stressed the need for continued financial and institutional support from the Centre. The Union Home Minister assured that the matters raised would be examined during the upcoming Parliament session. He also mentioned that discussions would be held with the Union Finance Minister, the Union Home Minister, and the Chief Minister himself to chart a coordinated path forward.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma also pressed for the early clearance of the Mizoram (Maintenance of Household Registers) Bill, 2019, which remains pending with the President of India. He requested that the issue be pursued to obtain the necessary Presidential assent. The matter of Lengpui Airport also came up, with the Home Minister informing that the Union Cabinet would be taking it up for consideration.
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted the pressing need to improve air connectivity in the state by expanding helicopter services and enhancing emergency access to remote regions. He also emphasized the requirement for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployment at Lengpui Airport, along with the need for continued funding under the Police Modernisation Scheme.
In a separate meeting, Chief Minister Lalduhoma called on Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, George Kurian. The Chief Minister sought central approval and funding for various proposals aimed at rural economic upliftment in Mizoram, particularly through livestock and fisheries development.
Among the projects discussed were the Integrated Aqua Park proposed for Zawlnuam, development projects under both the Chakma and Lai Autonomous District Councils, and support for the Mizoram Fish Farmers, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Producers and Marketing Association, as well as the Mizoram Cooperative Fish Farming Marketing and Processing Federation Limited.
The Chief Minister requested immediate sanction and comprehensive support under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), to which the Union MoS responded positively, indicating that the proposals would be reviewed and taken up for necessary action.
