Aizawl: Despite numerous companies across India being mandated to undertake Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Mizoram continues to receive one of the lowest shares of CSR funding in the country, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said in a recent program.
He made the remark while addressing the valedictory function of a three-day Capacity Building Workshop for NGOs and Implementing Agencies, jointly organised by the Mizoram CSR Cell and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), held at the I&PR Conference Hall in Aizawl.
Highlighting the pressing issue, the Chief Minister stated that CSR funds could play a vital role in addressing development needs in Mizoram. He cited the construction of the Serchhip Hospital building, which successfully mobilised over ₹21 crore through CSR contributions, as a model example.
He attributed the state’s low CSR inflow to the limited number of registered Implementing Agencies capable of receiving such funds. To address this gap, the Chief Minister’s Office has established a dedicated CSR Cell to encourage and assist local organisations in becoming eligible Implementing Agencies. This includes conducting sensitisation drives, such as a recent roadshow with the UNDP in Bangalore, a Talk Show, and the current training programme in collaboration with the CII.
The Chief Minister urged NGOs participating in the workshop to actively pursue registration as CSR Implementing Agencies. He assured them of continued support from the CSR Cell, adding that mobilising CSR effectively could uplift society, create job opportunities for youth, and contribute to the overall progress of the state.
TBC Lalvenchhunga, Adviser to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the CSR Cell, also spoke at the event. He reiterated the Cell’s commitment to guiding and supporting aspiring Implementing Agencies. He further announced the development of a CSR Matchmaking Platform that will facilitate partnerships between donor companies and local agencies, aimed at enhancing CSR project implementation in Mizoram.
