Aizawl: Vijay Nehra, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, chaired a review meeting on various national health programmes in Mizoram. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Mizoram.
During the session, key officials including Dr. Catherine Lalmuanawmi, State Nodal Officer for the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD), and Dr. Robert L. Khawlhring, State Nodal Officer for the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) and National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness (NPPCD), delivered detailed presentations highlighting the progress and ongoing efforts within their respective programmes.
Officials from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare — including the Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary — along with the Director of the Department of Health & Medical Education, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, and several other state-level health officials were also present.
In his remarks, Vijay Nehra appreciated Mizoram’s efforts in expanding cancer treatment and radiotherapy services in the state. He also acknowledged the state’s progress in establishing more dialysis facilities. Emphasising the importance of mental health, he urged the department to continue strengthening the Tele-MANAS services, ensuring that people are able to access mental health support with ease.
He lauded the Health Department officials and frontline workers for their dedicated service across various national health programmes and encouraged them to continue improving healthcare delivery in the state.
Commissioner & Secretary H. Lalengmawia expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for their continued support and guidance. He acknowledged that the state government has received significant help and direction from the Centre, especially in areas requiring urgent attention and rapid response.
Following the review meeting, Vijay Nehra visited Civil Hospital, Aizawl, where he inspected the Dialysis Ward, Cardiology Ward, and the Main Operation Theatre. Impressed with the facilities and services, he commended the dedication of the healthcare workers and urged them to continue working with compassion and efficiency for the benefit of the public.
