Aizawl: The inaugural program of Chapchar Kut 2025 was held today at Lammual ground, with Mizoram’s Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change (EF&CC), Lalthansanga, as the chief guest. This year’s Chapchar Kut celebrations in Aizawl are planned for two days, with today marking the official commencement, while the main event will be led by Mizoram Chief Minister on March 7.
In his address, the chief guest highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating the Zo people’s diverse cultural heritage through Chapchar Kut. He emphasized that Mizos, wherever they reside, continue to uphold and honor their traditions, making efforts to promote and celebrate their cultural identity. He urged the people of Mizoram to respect and cherish the state’s natural resources and scenic landscapes, as these are invaluable assets that must be preserved for future generations.
The event featured a special speech by CYMA Vice-President Prof. Lalnuntluanga, followed by a message of gratitude from Prof. Malsawmliana, Chairman of the Chapchar Kut Organizing Committee. This year’s Chapchar Kut celebrations are particularly special, as various YMA branches from outside Mizoram, including Manipur Group YMA, Tripura Group YMA, Shillong Group YMA, Haflong Branch YMA, and representatives from the Tlangram Indigenous People, were invited to participate.
Cultural performances were a highlight of the program, featuring diverse ethnic dance troupes, including the Pang Cultural Troupe, Paite Cultural Troupe, Bawm Cultural Troupe, Hmar Cultural Troupe, and the Nagaland Cultural Troupe under the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC). A special cultural troupe from Fiji, supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), also took part in the festivities.
Traditional songs, dances, and musical performances were showcased throughout the day. The main Chapchar Kut celebration will continue tomorrow at 10:30 AM. Apart from the Sipai Lammual event, various other activities such as food stalls, handicraft exhibitions, an Art & Photo Exhibition at Vanapa Hall, and a Flower Show at Aijal Club Park have also been organized.
