Aizawl: Mizoram has become the first state in Northeast India to establish a Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) chapter, marking a significant step toward promoting women-led development in the region. The milestone was celebrated at the inaugural State Workshop on Women-Led Development through Entrepreneurship, held at Mizoram University Auditorium as part of the NITI Aayog State Support Mission.
Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma officially launched the WEP Mizoram Chapter during the event, expressing gratitude to NITI Aayog for selecting Mizoram as the pioneering state in the Northeast. “It is an honor for Mizoram to be the first state in the region to have a WEP chapter. This initiative will provide new opportunities for women entrepreneurs and strengthen their role in the state’s economic development,” he said.
Dr. V.K. Paul, Member of NITI Aayog, attended the event as the Guest of Honour and commended Mizoram’s efforts in empowering women. He emphasized that the WEP Mizoram Chapter would foster financial independence and entrepreneurial growth among women in the state. He also encouraged women entrepreneurs to register with WEP and leverage the platform’s resources.
Highlighting the industriousness of Mizoram’s women, Chief Minister Lalduhoma referenced the state’s efforts to support women entrepreneurs, particularly through the Bana Kaih Scheme, which provides assistance and guidance to young entrepreneurs. “With WEP now operational in Mizoram, we are confident that more women will benefit from such initiatives and make lasting contributions to our economy,” he added.
The event also saw the launch of various WEP initiatives, including the Yashasvini and Swavalambini programs, along with the WEP App, all aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and skill development among women in Mizoram.
The establishment of the WEP Mizoram Chapter is expected to pave the way for other Northeast states to follow suit, furthering NITI Aayog’s commitment to enhancing women’s economic participation across India.
