Aizawl: On the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day 2024, the Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, expressed heartfelt gratitude and reverence for the Indian Armed Forces. In his message, he paid tribute to the brave soldiers who have selflessly dedicated their lives to safeguarding the sovereignty of the country, urging citizens to remember the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
Armed Forces Flag Day, observed annually on December 7, is a day to honor the Indian Armed Forces, who are the true guardians of the nation’s land, sea, and air frontiers. “They are always prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring the safety of our nation, allowing us, the civil society, to live in peace,” the Governor stated.
Dr. Kambhampati took the opportunity to highlight the contributions of Mizoram to the nation’s armed forces, citing the achievements of Mizo personnel. The Governor proudly mentioned the service of current MLAs in the 9th Legislative Assembly of Mizoram, including Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga (Retd.) and Petty Officer TBC Lalvenchhunga (Retd.).
Additionally, he recognized the valor of Mizo soldiers who have received prestigious awards for their service. Among them, Naib Subedar Jeremy Lalrinnunga, a Commonwealth Games 2022 Gold Medalist, was honored with the Vishist Seva Medal. Naik Lalhmangaihsanga Chinzah and Major Laldingngheta were awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for their bravery in combat, while Sepoy H Lalrokima received a Mention-in-Despatch for his courage in the face of the enemy.
A total of ₹7,53,000 has been distributed to these distinguished soldiers in recognition of their service, and the Governor encouraged Mizoram’s youth to follow in their footsteps. “I am confident that the Mizo youth, with their potential and energy, will excel in the Armed Forces and achieve great heights,” Dr. Kambhampati said.
Furthermore, the Governor highlighted the financial assistance provided by the state government to the families of fallen soldiers and those disabled in action. In the past two financial years, ₹12,50,000 has been disbursed to the next of kin of a soldier killed in action and a soldier disabled in action. Additionally, ₹1,58,000 was provided to 30 ex-servicemen and their families as financial aid.
Dr. Kambhampati also announced the launch of a fund collection drive across Mizoram to support ex-servicemen and their families. The fund will assist those in need of financial support, particularly for medical treatment and damages caused by natural disasters.
