Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, George Kurian, visited Hnahthial District to assess the progress of central schemes and address local development needs. He was accompanied by Hnahthial Deputy Commissioner Rita Lalnunmawii Pachuau and other key district officials.
The Minister landed at Rallangtlang Helipad at 1:30 pm and held a meeting at Horeb Lodge Conference Hall with officials from various departments. Discussions focused on the implementation of central schemes such as PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Mid-Day Meal, Kisan Credit Card, Ayushman Bharat Mission, and initiatives under the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Kurian listened to the challenges faced by officials in implementing these projects and inquired about infrastructure needs for the District Hospital and District College. Expressing concern over the absence of a Science stream at the college, he assured that funding would be sought from the Centre to establish one. He also pledged to address the other needs highlighted during the meeting.
The Union Minister later visited the Anganwadi-cum-creche and inspected its facilities, followed by a visit to the AH& Veterinary Department building, where he directed officials to submit a detailed report on the department’s requirements. At the District Hospital, he reviewed the campus and facilities and noted the urgent need for a pathologist and other resources.
In Leite, Kurian inspected a Solar Pump House project under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which currently provides water to 198 homes. He commended the project’s successful implementation. He also visited the residence of K. Lalchhuanawma at Lungleng Veng, constructed under the PM Awas Yojana (Urban).
A reception at the KVK complex marked the conclusion of his visit, featuring traditional Cheraw dance and a Pipe Band performance by Southern High School students. The event showcased stalls by various departments, including Agriculture, Sericulture, Fisheries, Horticulture, and Women’s Welfare groups like the MHIP.
The Union Minister expressed his commitment to addressing the district’s development needs and ensuring the effective implementation of central schemes.
