Aizawl: The Congress Party has strongly criticised Chief Minister Lalduhoma and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government for the deteriorating condition of roads in Mizoram.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Congress Party accused the ZPM government of neglecting essential infrastructure, leading to severe hardships for residents across the state.
The Congress highlighted that despite Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s frequent promises during campaign speeches to address the poor road conditions, little progress has been made. The party argued that while other political parties focus on gaining political mileage, their primary concern is the welfare of the public, particularly in the state capital, Aizawl.
The Congress Party pointed out that several roads within Aizawl are in a deplorable state, making it difficult for emergency services to operate effectively. They blamed the ZPM government’s lack of planning and urgency for the current situation. The party also claimed that after the ZPM government came into power, several poorly planned road construction projects have either stalled or have been executed so poorly that they pose a greater danger to the public. The Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, according to the Congress, has failed to deliver on promises to improve the situation.

Across Mizoram, the poor road conditions have caused significant problems for residents. The Congress noted that the Silchar-Aizawl road, a crucial route for the transport of goods and passengers, is in such bad condition that many motorists are reluctant to use it. The party also highlighted that in several areas, Maxicab drivers have stopped operating due to road damage, and school children are forced to navigate hazardous roads daily.
In response to the ongoing crisis, the Congress Party has demanded immediate action from the PWD Minister and the ZPM government to address the road conditions without further delay. They urged the government to prioritize practical work over empty promises and ensure the safety and convenience of Mizoram’s residents.
