Aizawl: Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Preventive Force Champhai, seized illegal currency worth 25.55 crore Myanmar Kyat, approximately ₹93.10 lakh, and apprehended six individuals in Mualkawi, Champhai district on August 22, 2024.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence about smuggling activities in the area. Assam Rifles set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Champhai to intercept suspicious vehicles. Two vehicles traveling from Lunglei and Aizawl towards Zokhawthar were stopped near Mualkawi for inspection.
A thorough search led to the recovery of 25.55 crore Myanmar Kyat, equating to around ₹93.10 lakh. Six individuals from Aizawl, Lunglei, and Champhai were arrested in connection with the illegal currency smuggling. Both vehicles were also seized.
The seized currency and detainees have been handed over to Champhai Police for further legal action. Authorities are continuing their investigation to dismantle the smuggling network and apprehend its leaders.
