Mizoram on Sunday reported 576 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 52,180, while two more fatalities took the death toll to 194, a health department official said.

About 97 children and four security forces personnel were among the newly infected people, he said.

The single-day positivity rate was 5.97 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 9,645 samples.

The fresh cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl district reporting the highest at 300, followed by Kolasib district at 71 and Mamitdistrict at 57, he said. 

Of the 576 fresh cases, 175 cases were confirmed at an RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College(ZMC),  366 were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts, 34 through TrueNat tests and 1 case was detected through Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA), he said.

Eight patients have travel history, while the rest 568 were found to have locally contracted the virus, he said.

271 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the remaining 305 are asymptomatic, he said.

The number of active cases now stands at 6,568, while 45,418 people have recovered from the infection, including 1,059  people on Saturday.  

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients is 87 per cent and the death rate is 0.37 per cent.

The state has tested more than 7.89 lakh samples for COVID-19 to date.

Over 6.50 lakh people have been vaccinated till Saturday, according to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi.
