Aizawl: Mizoram on Saturday reported the highest single-day spike since the state witnessed the second wave of COVID-19 as 62 more people, including 21 policemen, have tested positive for the infection. With this, the total tally in the Northeastern state has gone up to 4,809, an official said.

Of the new cases, 26 were reported from Aizawl district, 23 from Lunglei district, eight from Lawngtlai district, three from Serchhip district and one case each from Champhai and Kolasib districts, he said.

Thirty patients, including 21 police personnel who returned from Assam after election duty, have travel history, he said. He said that a 29-year-old woman and her seven-old month infant were among the newly infected people.

Of the 62 newly infected patients, 17 patients, including the 7-old month infant, have developed symptoms of COVID-19, the official added.

Mizoram now has 315 active cases, while 4,482 people have already recovered from the virus. Twelve people have succumbed to the infection so far. The state tested 2,73,247 samples, including 2,069 on Friday.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, 1,14,673 people, including 27,545 senior citizens, have been administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine till Friday.

Of this, 31,999 people have received the second dose of the vaccine.
