Ukhrul: An unexploded bomb was recovered by villagers in Sharkaphung village in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Friday, according to police sources.
The villagers reportedly discovered the device while foraging in a forest near the hanging bridge connecting to National Highway 202. After being alerted, personnel from Litan Police Station, accompanied by a BSF bomb disposal squad, reached the site and safely defused the device.
Police said the explosive was believed to be either a para bomb or a locally made improvised explosive device (IED). However, officials are yet to confirm its origin, and detailed information from the police and security agencies is awaited.
Sharkaphung village, also known as Sikibung, falls under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station and is among the worst-affected areas in the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
