Shillong: The Meghalaya Early Childhood Development (ECD) Mission has received the Gold SKOCH Award in the Early Childhood Development category at the 108th SKOCH Summit Public Policy Forum held in New Delhi.
The award recognises Meghalaya’s efforts in developing a state-wide model for early childhood development through collaboration between multiple departments and organisations.
The Mission was selected following a national-level evaluation process that began in March 2026. The assessment included project presentations, public voting, expert reviews, documentation, photographs, videos and impact assessments.
Led by the Department of Social Welfare, the Meghalaya ECD Mission brings together the Health Department, Community and Rural Development Department, Education Department, development partners, faith-based organisations, community institutions and frontline workers to improve services for young children.
According to the Mission, the SKOCH jury acknowledged Meghalaya’s focus on nutrition, early learning, responsive caregiving, behaviour change and community participation. Initiatives such as engagement with faith-based organisations, integration of ECD activities with Self-Help Groups, the Music and Movement Programme, and efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion were highlighted during the evaluation.
Dear Reader,
Every day, our team at EastMojo travels through rain, rough roads, and remote hills to bring you stories that matter – stories from your town, your people, your Northeast.
We do this because we believe in truthful, independent journalism. No big corporate backing, no government pressure – just honest reporting by local journalists who live and breathe the same air you do.
But to keep doing this work, we need you. Your small contribution helps us pay our reporters fairly, reach places others ignore, and keep asking the tough questions.
If you believe the Northeast deserves its own fearless voice, stand with us.
Support independent journalism. Be a Member.
Thank you,
