Shillong: At least four people were killed and one seriously injured in a dynamite blast at an illegal coal mine in the Mynsyngat–Thangsko area of Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district on Thursday.
As per reports, the East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar confirmed that four bodies had been recovered from the remote mining site.
Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Fire and Emergency Services were rushed to the spot to carry out rescue and recovery operations.
Initial reports suggested that additional miners might be trapped after a portion of the hill collapsed following the explosion.
Reports stated that the identities of the deceased were yet to be established.
