Tura: Subir Marak, the Rangsakona MLA from the NPP, is once again under scrutiny after claiming during an early election meeting for the Gambegre constituency that he had secured teaching jobs for people—a responsibility that does not fall under his official duties.
Social activist Cherian Momin criticized Marak after a video of him boasting about his role in selecting candidates for teaching positions went viral.
“On the surface, such appointments might seem commendable. However, closer examination reveals a disturbing pattern of favoritism and corruption that undermines the very principles of meritocracy and transparency. His actions have highlighted two critical issues: the question of authority and the secrecy surrounding these appointments,” Momin said in a press communiqué.
Momin questioned who had given Marak the authority to make such appointments and expressed concern over the misuse of power. “This is a very disturbing case where an elected representative appears to be leveraging his position for personal and partisan gain. It is a clear example of overreach of power,” he added.
The activist raised legitimate concerns about the fairness and transparency of Marak’s actions. “Were the appointments based on merit, or were they given to individuals with personal connections or political affiliations? The latter scenario would not only compromise the quality of education but also betray the trust of those who have been diligently preparing for these opportunities,” he continued.
In the viral video, Marak claimed to have provided teaching jobs to 25 people and later to another 28.
“This is not merely an administrative lapse; it is a direct assault on the integrity of our educational system and, by extension, our future. Appointments made without regard to merit or transparency place unqualified individuals in positions of influence over our students, jeopardizing their educational outcomes and future prospects. The real victims here are the students—the innocent recipients of a compromised educational system,” asserted Momin.
He further added that Marak’s statements have broader implications of political corruption and misuse of power. “It exposes the vulnerability of our institutions to manipulation by those in positions of authority, raising questions about the effectiveness of oversight mechanisms designed to prevent such abuses. His actions must be challenged, and a comprehensive investigation into the appointments is necessary to restore our faith in institutions that are too easily manipulated,” stated Momin.

The activist urged everyone to come together and demand a thorough investigation into Marak’s claims. “By coming together and demanding a thorough investigation, we can take a stand against corruption and ensure that our educational system—and our democracy—remain intact and untainted by political manipulation,” Momin concluded.
