Tura: Two local organisations from Rongara in South Garo Hills, the AOSW and FKJGP, have strongly condemned the alleged shoddy construction and repair of the state highway from Panda to Kanaidao.

They have urged concerned authorities to address the matter promptly.

According to the two organizations, the newly constructed highway has already developed numerous potholes on various stretches due to its poor construction. Additionally, they claim that the repair work involves only applying concrete underneath and a thin layer of tar on top.

A video from the construction site, sent along with the statement by the two groups, showed workers pouring liquid tar over what appeared to be newly applied concrete on the road.

Members of the two organizations can be heard questioning the workers if the liquid tar was being applied merely for color, to which there was no response.

“They are trying to deceive the people. They are pouring tar over the surface so that the concrete underneath cannot be detected. This is going to be a safety hazard as well, as it will be slippery when wet and might cause accidents in the future,” one of the members can be heard saying in the video.

The groups strongly condemn the poor quality of work and urge the government, district authorities, and concerned agencies to investigate the matter promptly.
