Shillong: Meghalaya NPP president Prestone Tynsong expressed concern over the recent clash between VPP-NPP supporters, terming the incident untoward.
The clash occurred during a public meeting of the NPP at Umsning and Jaiaw, where VPP supporters reportedly disrupted proceedings by continuously shouting slogans in support of VPP.
Despite attempts to persuade them to leave, the VPP supporters reportedly refused until local authorities and police intervention was necessary.
Tynsong said that such occurrences should not be tolerated, irrespective of the political party involved.
“I’ve spoken to the Returning Officer and to Election Machinery that they have to be more proactive and stringent to ensure that such things don’t happen. Even at Mairang, the same incident happened and also at Jaiaw. In every meeting, the instances keep happening only with the same political party ‘Prah’. When we have with other parties no such incidents happen,” Tynsong said.

Concerned over the desperation displayed by some individuals, Tynsong questioned whether it stemmed from a fear of losing or other motivations. He called for all political parties to prioritise the dignity of the state and ensure peaceful election campaigns and voting processes.
“Let’s maintain peace and decorum throughout the election period,” Tynsong urged, as he shared about the importance of upholding democratic values and conducting campaigns in a respectful manner.
