Shillong: In a distressing turn of events, two persons were found dead in mysterious conditions at Meghalaya’s Ichamati village located approximately 80 kilometers away from Shillong city, Meghalaya.
The victims, identified as L Esan Sing and L Sujit Dutta, were found at separate locations in Ichamati and Dalda, respectively.
Rituraj Ravi, Superintendent of Police (SP) for East Khasi Hills District, has disclosed that inquest procedures and post-mortem examinations are pending. “Local police teams, along with additional units from Shillong, are currently on-site. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses,” assured the SP.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred during a public gathering organized by a pressure group to express discontentment over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The two deceased individuals were reportedly innocent bystanders caught up in the turmoil provoked by attendees of the gathering.
Prompt intervention by law enforcement personnel from Majai Outpost and Sohra helped contain the escalating situation in Ichamati. An investigation related to the matter is still underway.
