Shillong: Meghalaya witnessed a breathtaking air show by the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) against the stunning backdrop of Umiam Lake on Friday.
Accompanying SKAT, Sukhoi-30 MKI, Rafale, and Chetak/Cheetah Helicopters also showcased their prowess during the event.

Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, along with various civil and military dignitaries, students, and public attended the event.
The Indian Air Force’s renowned Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) was formed in 1996 and is among the very few nine-aircraft aerobatics teams in the world, and the only one in Asia. This one of a kind team has carried out more than 500 displays in India, besides showcasing the professionalism of the Indian Air force in Air Shows abroad at China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and UAE.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma praised the Indian Air Force for their outstanding performance, expressing pride and gratitude for their service to the nation.
“This maybe one of the first times that I have actually sat through a live air show like this and I was completely blown away. So, I congratulate the entire team of the Surya Kiran that had given us a wonderful air show,” mentioned Sangma.
In response to inquiries about encouraging local youth to join the Armed Forces, Sangma highlighted efforts by the Armed Forces and paramilitary forces to engage with youngsters in the northeast. He emphasised the importance of youth participation in serving the nation and expressed optimism for increased involvement in the future.

“Almost every single force has a commandant and their respective recruiting agencies have met me many times to express the same concerns. They have asked us how they could ensure that more and more participation would be there. So, there is a lot of effort now being made. In fact, many of the recruitments are even happening at the grassroot level where they are reaching out,” said the chief minister.
