Shillong: The Government of Meghalaya, in partnership with the Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation (ANTF), orchestrated the Meghalaya Cancer Conclave 2024 on Monday at the Cosmos Hall, Hotel Courtyard Marriott, Shillong.
Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In her keynote address, Dr Lyngdoh underscored the imperative for immediate action, urging stakeholders to transcend discussions and execute effective measures. She accentuated the significance of ensuring healthcare accessibility, citing initiatives like the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), and emphasised the pivotal role of prevention and early detection in combatting cancer.

Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, emphasised the necessity for holistic solutions to confront the challenges in cancer care. He highlighted the conclave’s role in fostering exchanges of ideas and experiences.
Dr. Anisha Mawlong, Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at Civil Hospital Shillong, provided valuable insights into Meghalaya’s journey in tackling cancer. Additionally, poignant testimonials from cancer survivors were shared, serving as poignant reminders of the human dimension of cancer care, showcasing the resilience, courage, and determination of individuals facing the disease.
During the event, the Health Minister distributed Mobile Endoscopy Units as part of the Meghalaya Mission Cancer Prevention & Early Detection initiative and unveiled a promotional video for the First Cancer Care Project.
Keynote speakers at the conclave included Joram Beda, Commissioner & Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Prof (Dr) Nalin Mehta, Director of NEIGRIHMS, and Dr. K. Ganapathy, among others.
