Shillong: Meghalaya government’s expenditure is set to rise by 58 per cent to Rs 15,600 crore, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.
Replying to the discussion following the Governor’s address, Conrad Sangma said in 2017-18, government expenditure was Rs 9700 crore and in 2021-2022, the actual expenditure is expected to be Rs 15,600 crore
Taking a jibe at the previous Government, Sangma said that in rural Meghalaya, only 4500 households had tap water in 2017-2018, but today, 2,12,000 households have tap water.
Under PMGSY, Chief Minister said Meghalaya had 700 km of road in 2017 which crossed 1850 km in 2022. On average, 2 km of roads are being constructed every day.
As far as externally aided projects are concerned, the CM that Meghalaya is now implementing EAP worth Rs 7900 crores in comparison to Rs 2300 crore in 2017.
” We have delivered as a Government and we are not giving mere speeches,” said Sangma.
The chief minister also slammed the former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma for not taking any decision on the vexed border dispute with Assam.
Sticking to a position is a disaster for negotiations, Sangma said, adding that both Assam and Meghalaya are now close to resolving the dispute in six locations.
On the sixth schedule amendment, the Chief Minister said, “We have given in writing that we will not accept the word unscheduled tribe,” Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister informed the House that 3000 street lights will be changed in Shillong under the Smart Shillong city project.
He said that new LED lights will also be installed in the city and all these smart street lights will be connected to the integrated control command centre.
