Shillong: Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills District Police on Monday arrested two drug peddlers along with 98 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup and a total of 1,125 Yaba tablets, which were meant to be delivered to Bangladesh.

Based on reliable sources, the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) received information that around 11 am some drug peddlers were going to deliver drugs to some unknown person at Malikona, Baghmara area.

Accordingly, the ANTF staff picked up Merazul Hoque, the suspected drug peddler. Upon interrogation of Hoque at Malikona, the team were able to retrieve the drugs from the residence of another drug peddler (identified as Babu Das). 

At the residence of Das, the team seized a backpack containing 98 bottles of banned Phensedyl cough syrup. Usha Das, an accomplice present at the residence, further led the team to another stash of contraband she had dumped behind the house.

Inside a polythene, the police found 1,125 Yaba/Methamphetamine tablets weighing 109 grams.
