Shillong: Following Meghalaya government welcoming the banned militant outfit Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) for peace talks, Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday said they have officially received a formal letter confirming the decision to hold peace talks.
Rymbui said the HNLC has sent a letter to the office of the chief minister along with a copy to the deputy chief minister and the home minister.
“As mentioned by the chief minister yesterday, we’ve already started the process to look for an interlocutor and, similarly, we’re going to follow the next process of informing the Government of India,” the home minister said.
He added that the HNLC has given the same statement as issued in the press release that they are open for peace talks without any pre-conditions. The home minister said that he was positive that they will be able to work on this matter and ensure that there is peace and tranquility in the state.
