Sangma Assam Meghalaya border

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday informed that the process of selecting a new Director General of Police (DGP) has started.

The incumbent DGP, R Chandranathan, took charge in 2018 and is expected to retire on December 31, 2021. Sangma said there is a process for the selection of the DGP that has to be taken place.

Earlier, TMC leader Dr Mukul Sangma urged the government not to deviate from the mandate of the law as far as appointing the new DGP. Dr Sangma said the appointment of the new DGP has to be considered by the State Security Commission as per the State Police Act, 2010.
