Kangpokpi: Newly appointed Manipur Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur visited Kangpokpi on Wednesday and reviewed the implementation of government schemes, development programmes and welfare measures in the district.
During an interaction with District Level Officers (DLOs) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex, Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Hemant Kumar briefed the Chief Secretary on initiatives for internally displaced persons (IDPs), including their numbers, places of origin, resettlement status and sustainable livelihood programmes.
Singh Thakur reviewed the regular disbursement of benefits through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), special PMAY-G housing schemes and compensation for displaced farmers unable to cultivate their land.
He commended the district administration’s black rice cultivation initiative for IDPs, noting its successful commercial distribution outside Manipur. He directed officials to expand the programme to local farmers who are not displaced.
The Chief Secretary also asked the Zonal Education Officer to explore the possibility of securing fee concessions from private schools for displaced students.
The review also covered administrative and operational challenges, including supply constraints affecting the distribution of essential commodities along the Kangchup, T Waichong and Leimakhong routes. Singh Thakur assured officials of state-level intervention to address the issues, along with operational bottlenecks in healthcare, education and other key sectors.
Later, the Chief Secretary visited a prefabricated relief shelter at Ngahmun under Champhai Sub-Division, where he interacted with displaced residents. He also distributed stationery kits and sports materials to children and young people at the relief camp.
