Senapati: A high-level meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and Home Minister Konthoujm Govindas, was held in Senapati district with representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) on Monday to discuss the present situation in Manipur.
Nine MLAs from the state ruling government, including Naga legislators Awangbow Newmai, Leishiyo Keishing, Khashim Vashum, K Kumo Sha and Janghemlung Panmei attended a meeting held at the SM Sha Complex in the Senapati district headquarters. Nine representatives from the UNC, led by its president NG Lorho, were also present.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Thokchom Radheshyam, the Government spokesperson, described the first round of talks with the Naga apex body as fruitful and cordial. He emphasised that the meeting served as an ‘ice-breaker’ and that further discussions will be held to find solutions to several issues, including the ongoing economic blockade along the national highways.
UNC president NG Lorho stated that the meeting with ministers and MLAs focused on the way forward to bring peace in the state. During the discussions, the council’s four-point charter of demands was deliberated and the government requested that the UNC lift the ongoing blockade.
However, Lorho stated that they will not end the blockade along the national highways until the demands are addressed and fulfilled. He further warned of stringent actions if demands are not met. Lorho also said that they want further talks to be held in Senapati, not in Imphal.
It may be noted that the UNC have enforced an economic blockade along the national highways since June to demand justice for the six Naga men killed in Kangpokpi district after allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026.
The UNC’s four charter of demands also include removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, abrogation of SoO agreement with Kuki groups and declaration of KNF (P) as a terrorist organisation.
