Kohima: The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the killing of four NSCN cadres at Hongbei village under Kasom Khullen in Manipur’s Kamjong district on the night of March 28.
In a statement issued by its president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent, the federation described the incident as tragic and deeply disturbing, especially at a time when the Naga people are awaiting an honourable and inclusive political solution to the long-standing Naga political issue.
The federation said such incidents of fratricidal violence are not only unfortunate but also detrimental to the collective aspirations of the Naga people. It termed the development a disturbing reflection of internal discord driven by vested interests that undermine the unity and integrity of the Naga cause.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the NSF noted that the families have refused to accept the mortal remains of their loved ones while demanding truth, accountability and justice.
The federation also raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident, questioning how individuals committed to the Naga national cause could become victims of violence within their own ranks, particularly at a critical stage in the Naga political process.
While acknowledging the statement issued by the NSCN-IM regarding an ongoing investigation, the NSF urged that the inquiry be conducted in a time-bound, impartial and transparent manner. It further demanded that those found responsible be held accountable in accordance with established rules and principles of justice.
The federation also called upon all concerned to exercise restraint, uphold unity and remain committed to the shared vision of peace, dignity and justice for the Naga people, stating that the sanctity of the Naga cause must not be compromised by internal strife and violence.
