Imphal: A Felicitation-cum-Interaction Programme for selected candidates to work in Japan was organised by the Department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Government of Manipur, at Government ITI Imphal, Takyel on Thursday.
The programme aims to recognise the achievements of Manipur’s youth who have been selected for overseas employment esp in Japan.
Yaiphaba Longjam, Joint Director, Directorate of Craftsmen Training, Manipur, emphasised the importance of creating awareness about overseas employment opportunities, particularly at grassroot level (village and block level) and among ITI trainees and rural youth, and highlighted the economic benefits of remittances to the State.N. Bandana Devi, Secretary (SLEE) & SMD/MSRLM, Government of Manipur, highlighted the inclusive participation of candidates from different districts, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
She underlined India–Japan cooperation, the growing demand for skilled manpower in Japan across multiple sectors, and the structured, transparent work environment with attractive earnings and social security benefits.Officials from NSDC informed that 145 youths from Manipur have already been placed in Japan, with more candidates in the pipeline.
The programme concluded with felicitation of selected candidates and an interactive session, reaffirming the Government of Manipur’s commitment to promoting global skill mobility and youth empowerment.
SHG members, ITI Trainees & faculty members participated in the interactive session with the selected youths who will be leaving for Japan.Meanwhile, Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, also interacted with the candidates of Specified Skilled Workers (SSW), COE, at Lok Bhavan in Imphal. The SSW was introduced by the Government of Japan in April 2019, as a residency status, allowing Indian youth to work and reside in Japan.
The Memorandum of Cooperation between India and Japan for the implementation of the ‘Specified Skilled Worker’ programme was signed in January 2021.During a brief meeting, Governor interacted with candidates, along with parents, belonging to different districts of Manipur, including Ukhrul, Senapati, Imphal East and West, Thoubal, and an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from Churachandpur.

These candidates have successfully completed the Japanese language test and a skills proficiency test, will travel to Japan and work in various sectors such as nursing, hospitality, manufacturing, etc. Thirteen candidates have been approved for the Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) and will travel to Japan later this month.
The candidates expressed their excitement and appreciation for the opportunity. Governor wished the candidates his best wishes and expressed hope that they would perform well, uphold the values and culture of Manipur and India, and serve as ambassadors of goodwill while working in Japan.
