Imphal: Manipur Police arrested three individuals involved in the torching of the Sub-Divisional Collector’s office in Kumbi, Bishnupur district, which took place on September 26, 2024.
According to a police report, the arrested individuals were identified as Moirangthem Ajaykumar (22) and Wahengbam Prabhakar (27) from Kumbi Thong Leikai, and Khumanthem Jesper (23) from Kumbi Ishing Chaiba Leikai.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and have since been remanded to police custody for four days, starting from October 15. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the destruction of government property, the police report added.
In parallel, security forces conducted search operations and area domination exercises in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts. During these operations, a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, including a 7.62 mm AK rifle with a magazine, a 7.62 SLR rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm SMG rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, a 12 mm bore single-barrel gun, six live hand grenades, 58 live rounds of ammunition, two detonators, two tube launchers, a wireless handset (Baofeng) with a charger, a BP jacket, two BP iron plates, and five arming rings.
The weapons were recovered from the Leirongthel Pitra Uyok Ching area in Thoubal district and have been handed over to the police for further investigation, according to the police.
