Imphal: Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul of the Manipur High Court inaugurated the new district court building in Tamenglong district via video conference on Wednesday.
The virtual inauguration was attended by Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Law Commissioner Nungshitombi Athokpam, Manipur High Court Registrar General Ojesh Mutum, and High Court Judges A. Bimol Singh, A Guneshwar Sharma, Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, and Lenin Singh Hijam, along with local MLA Janghemlung Panmei in Imphal.
At the Tamenglong court site, the inauguration plaque was unveiled by Tamenglong ADM Chunglenmang in the presence of District and Sessions Judge Letkho Kipgen, Superintendent of Police Lanmiyo Luikham, SDO Tamenglong HL Christian Home, SDO Tousem Paul Nangsha, ADC Caretaker Namsinrei Panmei, ADC Chief Executive Officer Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei, and other district-level officers.
Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh explained that the inauguration was conducted virtually due to unpredictable weather conditions.
He noted that the foundation stone for the court building was laid on February 12, 2015, but construction faced delays due to funding shortages. The building, which cost an estimated Rs 31.8 crore after a revised fund sanction, was completed under the Planning and Development Authority.
The minister emphasised that the new court building marks a significant step forward in improving access to justice in the region.
Tamenglong AC MLA Janghemlung Panmei expressed his satisfaction with the milestone, stating, “The court building is a temple of justice, ensuring liberty, enhancing social order, resolving disputes, providing equal protection, and upholding the rule of law.”
