Imphal: In the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, Manipur is grappling with severe flash floods that have submerged vast areas of the Imphal valley.
The situation worsened rapidly, particularly since Tuesday evening, as the water levels of the Nambul and Imphal rivers breached the danger mark, inundating homes and streets in low-lying areas.
Responding to the urgent plea for assistance from the state government, the Indian Army swiftly initiated ‘Op JAL RAHAT,’ a comprehensive flood relief operation. In coordination with the District Commissioner of Imphal East, emergency columns were immediately deployed to the flood-affected regions.
The current focus of operations is in the vicinity of Lamlai Market and Khuman Lampak, Imphal East. Equipped with essential items, equipment, vehicles, and boats, the Indian Army’s columns are conducting rescue missions and providing aid to affected civilians. Numerous lives, including children, women, olderly, and infants, have been successfully rescued and evacuated to safer locations.
The prompt and effective response of the Indian Army underscores their unwavering commitment to the welfare and safety of citizens during times of crisis.
