Guwahati: In a bid to address the simmering unrest in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh didn’t mince words as he squarely blamed the Congress party for what he termed as “appeasement politics” leading to the current state of turmoil in the region.
Singh’s allegations came to light on Monday, where he asserted that had the Congress prioritised border security by fencing it during their tenure, Manipur wouldn’t have grappled with the prevailing crisis.
Singh’s remarks emerged in the aftermath of a visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during which Shah’s made an address regarding border security, the Free Movement Regime (FMR), and the issue of illegal immigration. Singh commended Shah’s commitment to safeguarding the state’s unity and integrity under the BJP’s leadership.
Addressing a large audience during his visit, Amit Shah emphasised that the ongoing Lok Sabha election transcends mere political competition between the BJP and Congress. Instead, he framed it as a battle against forces seeking to undermine Manipur’s unity.
“The destiny of the country will change when that of the northeast and Manipur will change,” Shah asserted, highlighting the critical importance of the region’s stability for national progress.
