Imphal: Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate, Kachui Timothy Zimik, officially commenced his electoral campaign for the upcoming II-Outer Manipur parliamentary election from New Canaan village in Ukhrul district, on Thursday.
This marks the initiation of campaign activities for the 18th Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Manipur.
Addressing the audience, Zimik emphasised the need for mutual respect and sincerity among communities to address issues and pledged to work towards restoring peace in the state.
“We must work together, irrespective of communities to bring peace and prosperity. Only then, we can bringaninclusive development and shared prosperity in order to a Manipur a vibrant state,” said Zimik.
Urging the public for their support, Zimik clarified that he represents not only the NPF but also serves as a Naga consensus candidate, endorsed by the BJP and NPP under the NDA alliance.
“The valley and the hill people of Manipur working together can bring the required changes and make Manipur a much better place to live in harmony and shared prosperity. All Communities in Manipur must co-exist in peace with mutual respect and understanding,” he added.
Secretary-General of the NPF Central Office Kohima and Nagaland MLA, Achumbemo Kikon, highlighted the inclusive nature of the kickoff program, emphasising unity among various communities, particularly Nagas and Meiteis.
Kikon pledged the party’s support to Th Basanta Kumar, the BJP candidate for the forthcoming Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Kikon reiterated the NPF’s commitment to advocating for the rights and aspirations of indigenous communities in the northeast region, stressing that the party serves as a platform for peaceful coexistence and dialogue-driven conflict resolution.
The NPF, since its formation in 1963, he said, is not just a political entity but a people’s movement, representing the interests of all indigenous communities.

“our regional identity is paramount and unless we represent ourselves, there will be no one to represent our grievances and issues. Therefore, this political platform is not a naga centric party but it is open to every individuals or organisations that believes in peaceful co-existence and solving issues through dialogue,” added Kikon.
The event was attended by Health Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister Awangbow Newmai, MLAs from NPF’s allies BJP, NPP, and other political parties of the NDA. Thousands of supporters and well-wishers from across the state gathered to express their solidarity with Zimik.
