Guwahati: In the wake of a viral video depicting an alleged standoff between armed miscreants and the 5 Assam Rifles personnel in the border town Moreh, the Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation has urged the Centre to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) with hill-based outfits. The incident, which occurred on January 17 at T. Yangnom, has raised concerns about the handling of the situation by security forces.

Expressing deep concern over the viral videos, the Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation stated that the footage of militants openly threatening the convoy of 5 Assam Rifles has irreparably damaged the reputation of the Indian Security Forces, particularly the Assam Rifles. The incident occurred during the ongoing Manipur violence, where armed miscreants allegedly killed eight personnel from Central and State Security Forces.

The video in question shows armed miscreants, reportedly from the Kuki community, blocking the path of the 5 Assam Rifles convoy and brandishing weapons in a troubled situation in Manipur’s border town Moreh. The convoy had been en route to a location where armed miscreants had ambushed security personnel on January 17, resulting in the death of two cops and injuries to two other security personnel.

The Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation highlighted multiple instances of alleged violations of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) conditions during the ongoing Manipur violence. They also reported what they said was a desecration of the sacred pilgrimage site of Thangjing Hills, in violation of a Supreme Court order.

In a press release, the Meitei organisation called upon the Ministry of Home Affairs to abrogate the SoO with the armed miscreants to ensure the safety of security forces and the lives of the public in Manipur. The foundation emphasised the urgency of addressing the situation to maintain law and order in the region.

  1. If the Meitei organization is concerned for the reputation of the Indian Security Forces, why don’t they raise similar concern for the Arambai Tenggol moving freely in vehicles bearing the insignia of State Police in the State Capital City with arms looted from State Armouries? Team EastMojo should highlight similar incidents in the opposite side when carrying items advocating the narratives of one of the warring side.
