Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conferred the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration, 2021 for best performance in the implementation of ‘Promoting excellence in sports and wellness through Khelo India scheme’ to Bishnupur district of Manipur.

The award was received by Lourembam Bikram, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur district.

Organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, the award was presented on the occasion of the 15th Civil Services Day observation held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration was instituted with an aim to recognize the extraordinary and innovative work done by districts or implementing units and central/state organizations for the welfare of common citizens.

Bishnupur DC Bikram expressed that the achievement has been made possible by the commitment and dedication from all the stakeholders of the district, especially the athletes, sports association, officials of various departments and district administration. 

He added that the award should be the stepping stone for all to work harder to bring more laurels for the district and the state as a whole.

Prasanta Oinam, District Manager, DIT/Nodal Officer, Prime Minister’s Awards under Khelo India Scheme, Office of the DC, Bishnupur accompanied the Deputy Commissioner at the award function. 

Oinam was tasked with the responsibility to collect data of more than 2,000 athletes for the Bishnupur district.

Khelo India Scheme is a national programme for development of sports which aims to infuse sports culture and achieve sporting excellence in the country.

The scheme is to encourage sports across the country allowing the population to harness the power of sports through its cross-cutting influence, including, holistic development of children and youth, community development, social integration, gender equality, healthy lifestyle, national pride and economic opportunities related to sports development.
