Imphal: Minister Th Biswajit Singh on Monday filed his nomination from Thongju constituency for the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly election at Imphal East DC office on Monday.
Interestingly, he was accompanied by his toddler son along with party workers.
Earlier in the day, minister Biswajit took to his Twitter handle and said, “I am filing my nomination from Thongju constituency today, with the divinely blessings of Almighty and my father. Let’s together build a new Manipur! Seeking your blessings!”
On Monday, as many as 14 candidates of different political parties in Imphal East district filed their nomination for the state election.
As on Sunday, 39 candidates had filed their nomination papers for first phase of Manipur election. These include 14 from BJP, eight from the Congress, seven from JD(U), five from NPP, four independent candidates and one candidate of Communist Party of India.
Chief minister N Biren Singh filed his nomination from Heingang, his home seat constituency, for the state polls. Singh has won four times from Heingang AC and is seeking a fifth term.
The nomination papers from the candidates will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on February 9. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is on February 11.
Manipur will go to polls in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting of votes and declaration of result is on March 10.
