Imphal: Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in Manipur‘s Senapati, the district administration on Saturday extended the ongoing ‘containment measures’ across a few towns till June 17.
As per the new order issued by district magistrate Mahesh Chaudhari, containment measures in the district headquarters, Maram Bazar, Tadubi town and Mao town, which were enforced from June 6 till June 13, have now been extended till June 17. COVID-19 cases are still being detected daily in the district despite precautionary measures being taken up, said the order.
The decision was taken during a District Task Force meeting held on Friday after due consideration of the current COVID-19 situation in the district. It recommended the continuation of containment measures till June 17 to ensure effective contact tracing of positive cases and to take up testing of primary contacts in the interest of public health and safety before the relaxation of containment measures, the order said.
The district administration had also started mass testing of shopkeepers and taxi drivers, including auto drivers, in different locations of the district from Wednesday. During the drive, many positive cases have been detected, the order said.

During the containment period, there will be restriction of public movement and public gatherings of any type and active surveillance of COVID-19 cases.
However, some limited activities will now be exempted. Here are the details:
- Vehicles carrying essential commodities, oxygen supply related vehicles, LPG and oil tankers, vehicles of essential services like power supply, fire services, water supply, waste and garbage collection, PDS, telecom, electronic and print media, airport duties and vehicles of other government departments.
- Works of both state and national projects to be carried out within the district.
- Home delivery of essential commodities, including supplementary nutrition for children, pregnant and lactating mothers, food items, vegetables, groceries, fish feeds/animal feeds and milk products.
- Medical institutions, including pharmacies.
- People going for vaccination, COVID-19 testing and those of child protection services.
- Healthcare workers and frontline workers from various departments carrying out COVID-19 related duties as assigned by the district administration.
- Banking services with limited staff from 10 am to 2:30 pm.
- Vehicle repairing workshops along National Highway 2.
- Agriculture and related activities with proper SoP maintained.
- Shops selling essential commodities shall be allowed to open from 6 am till 2 pm on all days with strict adherence to COVID-19 SoP.
- All shopkeepers, including women’s market vendors must mandatorily have COVID-19 negative report for opening the shops before June 18.
- Taxi drivers, including autos, shall be allowed to ply subject to possession of COVID-19 negative report before June 18.
