Kohima: After the 3-day mass casual leave in protest against the state government over the retirement age of medical doctors, the Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) has announced its decision to withhold the stir as a cabinet meeting to discuss the issue is to be held on Thursday.
After the state government failed to give a decision on the issue, a year after it gave a written offer to resolve the matter, the doctors went on a 3-day mass casual leave on April 18.
They had earlier threatened to cease work indefinitely if the state government failed to respond to their demands within the three-day period, which ended on Wednesday.
NIDA has been demanding that the retirement age of the medical doctors be raised to 62 years.
The doctors have been demanding the increase of retirement age in line with the announcement made PM Narendra Modi at a rally in May 2016, where he had announced that government doctors’ retirement age would be enhanced to 65 years due to the acute shortage of medical doctors.
