Guwahati: Over 200 singers to perform at Zubeen Garg tribute event

In remembrance of late singer Zubeen Garg, more than 200 singers from across Assam will come together for a musical tribute titled ‘Zubeen-Jonak Kontholoi Xuror Orghya’ on November 19 at the Assam Engineering Institute playground in Chandmari.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club on Monday. Organisers said the event will begin at 5 pm and feature around 200 songs originally sung by Garg, covering genres such as devotional, modern, folk, and ethnic music.

The tribute has been organised as a collective effort by Assam’s music community to honour the artist, whose sudden death last month left the state in mourning. The convening committee for the event includes Anupam Saikia, Tarali Sharma, Rupam Bhuyan, Nirmali Das, Barnali Kalita, and Subhasna Dutta.

Nearly 400 singers have extended their cooperation and support for the event. The organisers have invited the public to attend and clarified that no entry passes or tickets will be required.

Rehearsals for the tribute are already underway, with artists preparing to perform Garg’s most celebrated songs that shaped Assamese music for more than three decades.

Artists present at the press conference included Anupam Saikia, Barnali Kalita, Rupam Bhuyan, Kallol Barthakur, Subasana Dutta, Geetali Devi, Rakesh Riyan, and Dipalina Deka.
