A 25-foot bronze statue of late singer Zubeen Garg will be installed at Charan Beel Park in Morigaon to honour his contribution to Assamese music and culture.
The announcement was made by Assam Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika on Tuesday during the Bhumi Pujan ceremony organised as part of Morigaon District Day. Sharing the update on social media, Hazarika wrote that Zubeen Garg’s “towering legacy will forever inspire generations” and said the monument would pay tribute to his role in shaping Assamese identity through music.
The statue, designed by sculptor Biren Singha, will be a joint initiative of the Morigaon District Administration and the Tiwa Autonomous Council. Officials said the project aims to create a cultural landmark reflecting Garg’s enduring influence across generations of artists and audiences.

Zubeen Garg died on September 19 in Singapore after drowning during a yacht event linked to the Northeast India Festival. According to official reports, he suffered a seizure while swimming near St John’s Island and was declared dead at Singapore General Hospital.
His death led to widespread mourning in Assam, with thousands attending his state funeral in Guwahati. Allegations of negligence and foul play prompted the formation of a Special Investigation Team, resulting in several arrests, including his manager, the event organiser, and a family member.
The Assam government has also announced plans to establish additional memorials in Guwahati and Jorhat to commemorate Garg’s artistic legacy.
